The man from Mkoba 14 allegedly sneaked into the room where the 19-year-old woman was sleeping and raped her once.

The complainant and the accused’s mothers are sisters.

Regional magistrate Morgan Nemadire said the moral blameworthiness of the accused was high in that he raped his own sister before handing him a 15-year sentence. Three years were suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.

Nemadire said the accused had caused tension in the family through his animalistic behaviour.

The State said on January 31, the 19-year-old complainant was left by her mother at her sister’s place with the accused.

At around 10pm, the rapist went to the dining room and turned on the radio and put the volume at full blast. He then sneaked into his sister’s bedroom and allegedly lifted his sister’s one-year-old daughter who was sleeping with her mother on the floor and placed her (toddler) on the bed.

He removed his sister’s clothes and raped her ignoring her cries that she was bleeding from stitches on her private part.

After the rape the accused threatened to assault and chase the complainant from his mother’s house if she reported the matter to anyone.

The sister only reported the ordeal to her mother when she returned to Gweru from Silobela on May 8.

The family held a meeting and agreed to report the matter to the Nehanda Police Station in Mkoba 19, leading to the man’s arrest.
