TWO robbers nabbed in Gweru last week for allegedly using explosives to blow open money safes and strong rooms appeared at the Gweru Regional Court yesterday on charges of unlawful entry and theft.

The State said between October 13 2013 and June 8, Kudzai Chiza (30) of Globe and Phoenix in Kwekwe and Milton Gomana (31) of Nkulumane 5, Bulawayo, unlawfully gained entry into business premises and stole cash and property valued at $25 132.
It was the State’s case that on October 13 2013 at around 3am, the two went to Chakalli Nyakudya’s Primero Service Station in Kadoma and used a pick to break into the premises.
They allegedly used explosives to blow open safe boxes and stole $677 and R4 600.
On February 16, they allegedly went to Ntobe Store at Crossroads in Silobela where they allegedly used the same modus operandi and got away with $612, R875 and a laptop.
The State further alleged that on March 14, the two broke into Zimpost Mhangura and stole $1 800 cash, a cellphone as well as prepaid cards and sim cards.
The total value of stolen goods was $2 848.

The two allegedly raided seven other shops in various places using the same method.
They were arrested in Gweru on June 8 following a tip-off and found in possession of numerous cellphones.
The total value of cash stolen was $25 132 and R5 475, but only property worth $875 was recovered.
The trial continues on Friday.
