Eliton Ncube (31) appeared before Lupane magistrate Aelene Munamati facing a charge of attempting to rape his neighbour’s 16-year-old daughter.

Ncube denied the charge and claimed he was in a consensual relationship with the girl.

“We were in love with the complainant and I would on numerous occasions give her money to give to her parents,” Ncube said.

He said the girl could have reported the matter to the police because she wanted to conceal the affair after being bust by his wife and kids at his house.

Munamati remanded Ncube to June 24 for judgment after the State closed its case.

Prosecutor Wilberforce Ngoshi told the court that on May 15 at around 5pm, Ncube sent a child to call the girl over to his homestead when his wife and kids were away.

The girl went to the homestead with the child that had been sent to her and Ncube allegedly ordered the child to go to the garden and he remained with the girl.

It was alleged that he called the girl into his bedroom where he pushed her onto the bed, removed his trousers and tried to rape her.

The court was told that Ncube’s wife and children arrived and went to the kitchen hut.

Ncube was said to have jumped from the bed and slapped the girl in the face and got out of the bedroom hut. The girl went home and told her mother about the attempted rape before reporting the matter at the Gomoza Police Station, leading to Ncube’s arrest.
