Baba vice-chairman Ezwell Ndlovu said they were expecting boxers from outside Bulawayo to take part in the tournament.

“We have started preparations for the national Youth Games which will be held in Masvingo. We will hold a boxing tournament at Manor Hotel this Saturday and we have invited boxers from Gwanda and Gweru,” he said. “The tournament will help us identify boxers that will take part in the Youth Games and it will keep the boxers that were selected a while ago fit,” he said.

Boxing clubs that include Nkulumane, HQ1 Brigade, Tshaka Youth Club, Nketa, Lobengula, Bulawayo West and Percy Ibbotson are expected to take part.

Last month Baba held a tournament, but only 20 boxers turned up for the bouts which were part of the Youth Games and Region V Games preparations.

The Region V Games will be held in Bulawayo in December with 15 countries expected to take part.

Some of the young pugilists expected to trade leather on Saturday include Casper Mnkandla of HQ1 Brigade, Prince Masona from the same stable, Tshaka’s Andile Ncube and Prince Sibanda.
