Sibanda took his goal tally to 10 making him the league’s top goalscorer to date as the first round of the 2014 season came to an end yesterday.

Southern Eye Sport spoke to Sibanda soon after the match.

“I feel motivated for the upcoming games I have been waiting for this (hattrick).

“As a striker I am paid to score goals. I am happy that I have scored 10 goals so far. That is not the end for me and I am looking forward to scoring more goals,” he said.

“Last week I wasn’t training because I was injured, but I trained all week and I applied what I was being taught by the coaches during our training sessions in today’s (yesterday) match.

“My target is to score in each and every match.”

In May, the former Motor Action and FC Platinum man missed an opportunity to grab his first hattrick in the 3-1 win over army side Buffaloes at Sakubva Stadium in Mutare.

His third goal-bound shot was deflected by Buffaloes defender Liberty Chakoroma beating the home side’s goalminder Blessing Mwandimutsira.

Sibanda grabbed a brace after striker Gabriel Nyoni levelled terms when visitors Black Rhinos had gone ahead through Lincoln Samaraya in a league match on June 29.

In an earlier interview with this publication Sibanda said he was putting maximum effort in his performance as he wants to achieve his targets.

“I was a soccer star of the year finalist last year. I want to be in the calendar again this year or even win the top award like I did in 2010,” he said then.

“Highlanders has not won the championship in a long time so I want to help them win it.

“My other aim is to be the league’s top goalscorer at the end of the season. I am also eyeing a move to Europe.

“I want a move to Europe because I know that my type of play will not fit in South Africa.”

Sibanda scored the solitary goal last year as Zimbabwe beat Zambia 1-0 at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola to qualify for the 2014 Chan finals.

But Warriors coach Ian Gorowa dropped the player for the finals in South Africa to everyone’s shock.
