In a speech read on her behalf by the principal director in the Office of the President and Cabinet, Benson Martins Dube at a stakeholders meeting on Friday, Provincial Affairs minister Eunice Sandi Moyo said the business community would play an important role in the games set for December 4 to 15.

“The purpose of this meeting is to enrich your understanding of the games and help you identify the various ways in which you could participate in making them better. You are an important player in these games,” she said.

Sandi Moyo encouraged the business community to join the Local Organising Committee (LOC) in preparing for the games.

“Our theme is Reach for Greatness. Your involvement in the games will make you part of this reach for greatness,” she said.

“We look to all of you to help make this sporting event memorable. We encourage you to join us.

“While these games are being hosted by Zimbabwe, you as the business community of Bulawayo are key partners in their hosting.

“Your participation in various aspects is critical to the success of these games.”

Bulawayo will host 15 countries in December with more than 2 000 athletes and officials expected to be part of the games. Ten countries from the African Union are expected to take part and these are Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Mozambique, Malawi, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Five others will take part through invitation and these are the Democratic Republic of Congo, Tanzania, Madagascar, Mauritius and the Seychelles.
