Njabulo Msebele of Lushonkwe village appeared before Gwanda magistrate Sheila Nazombe for assaulting and setting his dogs on Fisani Ndlovu (25).

Msebele pleaded not guilty saying his dogs attacked Ndlovu after he became disorderly.

The court heard that on July 15 at around 9pm, Ndlovu went to Msebele’s homestead intending to buy some cigarettes.

The two had earlier had a misunderstanding during a beer drink and Msebele allegedly attacked Ndlovu with a stone hitting him on the head before setting his two dogs on him. Ndlovu sustained injuries on the head, chest, hands and both legs following the vicious attack by the dogs.

In his defence, Msebele said his dogs had attacked Ndlovu after he persistently asked to buy a cigarette from him despite being informed that they were not available.

However, Ndlovu said Msebele set his dogs to attack him.

“I tried to run away, but the dogs caught me and attacked me tearing my shirt,” he said.

“Msebele kept urging them to attack me as if they were attacking a wild animal.

“I then stood up and went home, but had difficulties in walking.”

The matter was deferred to Monday next week for continuation of trial.
