Gee’s Takeaway owners said the opening of a new outlet — christened Chip and Roll — is intended to consolidate the company’s growing customer base in the city.

The restaurant opened its doors to the public last month and offers a different range of products including traditional meals.

In an interview with Southern Eye Business yesterday, Gee’s director Ranchod Bharat said Bulawayo was open for business, adding that it is the reason he has invested a lot into the city.

“We do a wide range of products — for example we offer traditional meals, normal meals, burgers, rolls, Indian curries, roasted chicken among other products,” Bharat said.

Asked how he was going to manage stiff competition in the sector, Bharat said he had confidence in his product line.

“We will try to meet our customer requirements by offering quality services. Our products are of good quality and we believe our customers enjoy them,” he said.

He added that at the moment employees were undergoing intense training to achieve good quality services.

After the training, they would select the best for employment, adding that the outlet would employ local youths in Bulawayo, but this would depend on the business environment.

Most businesses nationwide are reeling from a severe liquidity crunch blamed on the prevailing harsh economic environment.

Bharat lamented high rentals saying they were making it hard to expand businesses.

Gee’s company has been operational in the city since 1992.

Since the beginning of this year, more than three shops — especially food outlets — have opened shop defying the claims that Bulawayo is a dying city.
