Wellington Zivuka (26) of Entumbane was supposed to appear before Bulawayo magistrate Charity Maphosa last Thursday to answer to charges of fraud, but did not show up prompting the magistrate to issue a warrant for his arrest.

Prosecutor Kudakwashe Jaravaza told the court that Zivuka was employed by Edgars as a collections clerk and his duties were to follow up on defaulting clients.

He was not allowed to receive cash from account-holders, but if he did that he was supposed to provide receipts to the clients.

It is the State’s case that from December 2012 to December 2013, Zivuka recovered cash amounting to $3 529 from various customers.

However, he allegedly converted the money to his own use before posting the amounts into the computer system and clearing the follow-up cards to cover up the offence.

He had allegedly collected the money from a total of over 40 clients, some of whom are now based in the Diaspora.
