A Victoria Falls woman was on Saturday brutally assaulted by members of the presidential guard after they spotted her using a wrapping cloth emblazoned with President Robert Mugabe’s face to strap thatch grass.

Mugabe is in Victoria Falls for the Southern African Development Community (Sadc) summit that ends today.
The woman in her mid 20s said she was brutalised for no reason. This reporter witnessed the marauding gunmen armed with AK 47s war rifles who were travelling in two green Toyota Land Cruisers assaulting the hapless woman.
The soldiers who were travelling from Mosi oa Tunya High School where they were camped met the woman as she was about to reach Chinotimba suburb.
Three of the soldiers jumped off from their vehicle which was still in motion and menacingly charged towards the unsuspecting woman. One of them slapped the woman as they chastised her for demeaning Mugabe’s image.
“You are very lucky, if it was not that we are busy you could have died right now,” one of the soldiers shouted.
“Put your grass on the ground. We are aware that you are a Zanu PF supporter, but this wrapper is not for ferrying thatch grass. Use it for its intended purpose.”

The soldiers then left for the town centre and the woman was forced to abandon the grass.
Victoria Falls residents have complained that security forces deployed in the resort town for the summit routinely harass them.
Similar complaints were made during the United Nations World Tourism Organisation general assembly last year.
