HARARE — Despite a brilliant knock from Faf du Plessis, the Proteas lost by 62 runs to Australia in their triangular ODI in Harare yesterday.

Du Plessis top-scored with 126 for the Proteas, dragging them into a victorious position at one stage after a slow, stumbling start, but it wasn’t to be as he stepped onto his stumps with the Proteas requiring another 69 runs for victory, with only two wickets remaining.

Australia’s Mitchell Johnson and Glen Maxwell proceeded to wrap up the tail to finish with figures of 2-30 and 2-21, respectively.

The margin of victory was enough for Australia to claim a bonus-point, ensuring their spot in Saturday’s final. Zimbabwe and South Africa clash tomorrow to determine who will join Australia in the final.
