Matambanadzo, who is facing charges of assaulting Ncube, had accused the Gokwe Kana MP of having held a meeting with some Zanu PF youths who he ordered to burn the Kwekwe Central MP’s shop.

It was the State’s case that on August 13, Ncube told Unique Chiduza and five other Zanu PF youths that they should stop interacting with Matambanadzo because he was uneducated and wore cheap quality suits.

Ncube’s lawyer Valentine Mutatu said the State had conceded it had a weak case and withdrawn the matter before plea.

“Matambanadzo reported a case to the police based on hearsay evidence and as we went through the State papers we asked them to show a single witness who was there when the words were said and there was none,” Mutatu said.

As Ncube walked out of court triumphantly, four of his supporters laughed loudly, drawing the ire of magistrate Letwin Rwodzi who briefly detained them in the court holding cells for contempt of court.

Fiona Mkwena prosecuted.
