HWANGE failed to capitalise on Highlanders’ loss to move into fourth place and a possible Mbada Diamonds Cup slot when they played a goalless draw against struggling Bantu Rovers in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League game at Hartsfield Rugby Ground yesterday.

The result left Bantu Rovers on 15th place while Hwange remained in fifth place with 38th place, one behind Highlanders who have 39.

Bantu Rovers associate coach Mandla Mpofu lamented the team’s failure to get results.

“We are disappointed. We were playing one of the best teams in the country, but failed to capitalise. We are still fighting and we really hope that we will win. We do not know how to win or to get the results. We have to come up with a strategy to win,” he said.

Hwange assistant coach Chenjerai Dube who was standing in for Nation Dube who is in Botswana with the Young Warriors said: “We are not happy with the way we played. It has everything to do with our finishing and the quality of the pitch. It is bumpy and my players were failing to control the ball. We are going to soldier on and take each match as it comes.”

There was not much action to write home about from both sides with Hwange being denied two clear cut chances.

Goalmouth technology could have been called for in the eighth minute as Takunda Mutanga pushed Munyaradzi Mungadze’s goal bound header out just as it went into the net.

The visitor’s second attempt was at the stroke of halftime when Isaac Masame’s shot from just outside the box was tipped over the bar.

Bantu Rovers had the opportunity to score in the 36th minute through Moses Majika who gave the Hwange defence trouble throughout the match, but his effort was saved by Takabva Mawaya in goal for the coal miners.
