A 22-YEAR-OLD Mberengwa man allegedly severely assaulted his grandmother for failing to stop his mother from getting married to another man resulting in him dropping out from school at Grade 3 level. ALLIEWAY NYONI OWN CORRESPONDENT Knowledge Sibanda of Ziyambi village under Chief Mataruse was remanded in custody to October 14 when he appeared at the Zvishavane Magistrates’ Court facing three counts of assault, malicious damage to property and theft.
The State alleged that on September 27, Sibanda went to his grandmother Tarisai Sibanda’s homestead while drunk and demanded to know why she had failed to stop his mother from remarrying since she abandoned him resulting in him dropping out of school 14 years ago.
It was alleged that Sibanda then assaulted his granny using clenched fists blaming her for his dire poverty.
He then broke some windows and is also alleged to have stolen a solar panel and stereo system that he said he would sell to raise money to enrol himself in school.
The grandmother alerted neighbours, who made a police report, leading to Sibanda’s arrest.
