Namatai Mugara (22) would allegedly call the pupils into the storeroom and sit them on a desk, before demanding the girls lift their skirts and he would lick and fondle their private parts.

To the boys, the teacher would order that they remove their shorts before stroking their private parts and sucking on them.

Mugara yesterday appeared before Hwange magistrate Portia Mhlanga facing allegations of abusing the pupils.

Prosecuting, Onius Nyathi told the court that between September 24 and 25 at Dingani Primary School, Mugara called some of his Grade 1 pupils in pairs to his storeroom during lessons.

While inside, he ordered them to climb on the office table while he sat on a chair in front of them.

He would instruct the girls to lift up their uniforms and remove their pants before playing with and licking their private parts.

The court was further told that he would first order the boys to remove their shorts and pants before touching their private parts using his fingers and sucking them.

Some he would only touch their privates without licking them, before ordering that they go and wash them as they were smelly.

After the alleged abuse, Mugara would warn the pupils as they left the storeroom not to disclose the matter to anyone as he would beat them during lessons.

The matter came to light after one of the pupils told her parents at home about the ordeal that had lasted two days.

The parents went to inquire from the school head and a report was immediately filed at Dete Police Base.

Mugara, who has been in custody since the offence was discovered, was yesterday granted $150 bail and the matter was set to continue on October 21.
