ZimMidas Parts Challenge is an annual competition introduced in 2001 to foster greater professionalism. Each year scores of parts experts get involved, including technicians, sales people and other tradesmen and professionals.

They write an initial test in one of four centres in which ZimMidas operates — Harare, Bulawayo, Mutare and Kwekwe — and three top-placed people from each centre go into a national final examination, from which the overall top three are selected.

On Friday more than 50 motor experts convened in Bulawayo to write the regional test. Clover Leaf Motors group Bulawayo branch manager Jadius Goto said the competition had grown from strength to strength.

“A decade or so ago we conceptualised this competition and I do not think that even in our wildest dreams we thought it would prove to be the success that it has been and that 14 years later we would still be presenting this event to the Zimbabwean motor industry,” he said.

“When we first launched this competition there were a number of other initiatives taking place within the industry, but all of them have now disappeared and so I am very proud that we are still running, despite all the challenges we have faced over the past 14 years in undertaking the event each year.”

The competition is aimed at people in the motor trade industry and it is sponsored by the ZimMidas Parts Centre division of the Clover Leaf Motors group.

Goto said the past 14 years of the ZimMidas Parts Challenge had been enjoyable and interesting, not only for them, but also for the many hundreds of people who have taken part in the event.
