Mahlangu, Moyo, Artwell Sibanda and Melisa Mabeza were involved in a car accident while travelling from Harare to Bulawayo along the Harare-Chivhu Road on October 18 at around 7pm.

MDC-T organising secretary, Nelson Chamisa yesterday confirmed receiving reports of Mahlangu’s death.

“I have just received the sad news that Mahlangu passed on yesterday at the United Bulawayo Hospital where he has been admitted since the accident happened,” he said.

“We are yet to get directions and instructions on our role for his burial and we will be advising you on any progress.”

Chamisa said the other accident victims still faced some challenges, although they were recovering. He could not be drawn into revealing if they were still admitted at hospital or whether they had been discharged.

The car the four were travelling in reportedly hit a cow and then had a head-on collision with a haulage truck just 10km from Chivhu.

Moyo sustained head injuries while the other passengers sustained various injuries, with the driver being the most seriously injured.

Mahlangu had suffered a broken leg and sustained chest internal problems as he was trapped in the vehicle following the accident.

After the accident, they were admitted to Chivhu Hospital before being transferred to United Bulawayo Hospitals.

Their vehicle was a total write off.

Details of the funeral arrangements were yet to be advised.
