DYNAMOS’ championship hopes suffered a major reversal yesterday after they were held to a draw by relegation-bound Bantu Rovers in a Castle Lager Premier League tie at Rufaro Stadium.
The point gained though lifted them back to the top of the league table after ZPC Kariba had 24 hours earlier secured top place after overcoming Harare City 3-2.
But with ZPC Kariba up next in what is clearly the title decider, Kalisto Pasuwa’s men — who are seeking a fourth successive league title — are aware another stumble could derail their title ambitions.
Dynamos now lead the standings with 54 points with ZPC Kariba a point behind with two more matches left before the end of the campaign.
“We lost the plot again,” Pasuwa said afterwards.
“We wanted to collect maximum points, but we managed to get one point. It’s all part of the game. Maybe the attitude was not right.

“We were always second to the ball and there was no aggression going forward. This one was our toughest match and we have to get it right against ZPC Kariba.
“I don’t think it will be tougher than this one, but I think it will be very interesting to play ZPC Kariba.”
Bantu assistant coach Mandla Mpofu was pleased with the result. 
“We were not under pressure at all,” he said. “We came here to enjoy the game and are happy to collect a point against Dynamos. We were also motivated by our victory over Chapungu in the previous match, but it will be unfortunate if we go down.
“But Bantu is a big project which has churned out youngsters like Kuda Mahachi, now in South Africa, and Marvellous Nakamba who is in Holland. Today we brought two 16-year-olds Thembalethu Mthunzi and Denzel Khumalo,” Mpofu said.
However, it was Dynamos who had started brightly, launching dangerous raids in their opponent’s goal, but the visitors soaked all the pressure and towards the end of the first half they grew in confidence with Teenage Hadebe bossing the midfield while veteran striker Obadiah Tarumbwa looked dangerous every time he was in possession.
Dynamos could have emerged with maximum points in the end as substitute Farai Mupasiri watched in disappointment his header crashing against the upright in referee’s optional time.
Frustration crept in Dynamos towards the end with most of their passes going astray.
Overally, Rodreck Mutuma, Ronald Chitiyo, Simba Sithole and Washington Pakamisa missed clear chances on either side of the half.
