Masawi became a household name between 1998 and 2003 when he formed a deadly combination with Zenzo Moyo during a spell where Bosso ruled the roost in the domestic league.

Prominent music promoter and Sekunjalo director Dave Ncube said Masawi’s appointment was meant to inject fresh impetus into the company’s activities.

“We have decided that Thabani should not only be our ambassador, but also control programming as well as serving as our spokesperson,” he said.

Ncube said Masawi would assist Sekunjalo to venture into social soccer since he had vast experience on the field of play and would promote the brand through sport.

“Basically, we want Selbourne to be a place where sports persons can celebrate and refresh after their matches or during off season breaks,” he added.

Masawi promised to raise Selbourne to a higher level as he was abreast with what people were looking for in entertainment and was well versed with the local public.

The entertainment company also appointed Cliff Skinner, aka Selector C, as resident disc jokey at Selbourne Hotel.

DJ Skinner is a veteran wheel spinner who started playing in Victoria Falls before moving to Bulawayo. He later relocated to South Africa where he has been based for over 15 years prior to his return to the country.

The old school DJ will operate from Wednesday to Sunday, complementing live show performances at the hotel.

“We are confident that these two guys will uplift the brand,” Ncube said.

Sekunjalo says its aim is to turn Selbourne Hotel into a home of jazz music in Bulawayo.

Last Friday, veteran jazz band the Cool Crooners staged a well attended show at the hotel.
