Simon Save of 154 Chrome Drive appeared before Mberengwa magistrate Story Rushambwa facing charges of burglary and theft.

Rushambwa asked Save why he broke into the hotel and he confidently he replied that his hunger had led him all the way to the hotel.

“I was very hungry your worship and that gave me power to break into the hotel.

“When I found no food, I took the valuable property.”

The magistrate said it was shocking that if he was hungry as he claimed to be, where did he get the strength to carry a 32 inch Samsung LED TV, computer and clothes among other valuable assets.

“I wonder where you got the strength to carry this entire staff yet you were hungry,” Rushambwa questioned.

It was the state’s case that on October 13 around midnight, Save broke into Mberengwa Hotel through the front door after hotel attendant Michael Musagwiza had already closed at the end of business for the day.

Upon entry he allegedly stole goods worth more than $1 500 and went unnoticed.

It is alleged he sold the goods to different people in Zvishavane and Mberengwa before police got a tip-off from members of the public, leading to his arrest.

Goods worth $450 were not recovered.

He was remanded in custody to today.
