ATHLETES to represent the country in the African Union Sports Council Under-20 Youth Games are expected to trickle in today in Bulawayo ahead of the Peak Perfomance Camp which begins tomorrow.

Team Zimbabwe will compete with athletes from Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, Malawi, Mozambique, South Africa, Seychelles, Swaziland and Zambia from December 5-14.
Deputy chéf de mission administration of the games Tirivashe Nheweyembwa yesterday confirmed to Southern Eye Sport that all was set for the training camp.
“We officially announced Team Zimbabwe in Harare yesterday (Wednesday),” he said.
“We are now expecting some of the athletes to start arriving in Bulawayo tomorrow (today) before we begin the peak performance training Camp in Bulawayo on Saturday (tomorrow). We expect the athletes to arrive in batches because some are coming from schools.
“Everything is in order. The athletes will be accommodated at Bulawayo Polytechnic. That is where they are going to be having their meals.”
A total of 223 athletes will represent the country in the games with 120 athletes expected to be the first to go into camp while others are expected to join camp by November 28 after public examinations.

A lot will be expected from Zimbabwe as the team has set a target of 40 medals when they compete in athletics, basketball, football, boxing, judo, tennis, netball and swimming.
President Robert Mugabe is expected to officially open the games at Barbourfields Stadium on December 4.
The games will be hosted ZITF, Large City Hall, Luveve and Barbourfields Stadium, White City Stadium, Bulawayo Athletics Club and Bulawayo Swimming Pool. Today, the regional organising committee will be touring the venues.
