The authorities raised the issue at a provincial development committee annual review meeting last week, calling for a concerted effort in raising alerts to avoid such incidences in future.

Provincial administrator Cecilia Chitiyo said all stakeholders should join hands to ensure that the province’s reputation is not tainted by cases of exam paper leakages emanating from the province.

“This is a wrong precedent, we can’t have the province being at the centre of exam paper leakages,” she said.

“The onus is on all of us to fight this embarrassing occurrence and be on the high alert. It is not just the issue of the education sector alone, but it affects all of us.”

The writing of ‘O’ Level English paper 1 and 2 and Mathematics papers 1 and 2 had to be postponed to between November 24 and 27 after the papers leaked at Whata Secondary School in Lower Gweru, Midlands province.

Last year, Geography and Integrated Science papers 2 were cancelled after they leaked from the Midlands province which saw the arrest of a school head and several teachers from Kwekwe and a private college in Gweru.

Kwekwe district administrator Ten Percent Mutikizizi said the province could not afford to have recurring incidences of exams leakages at a time it was concentrating on developmental aspects affecting the region.

The English and Maths papers will be rewritten at a cost of $1 million according to the Education ministry.
