Namibia get bronze

AFTER losing 1-0 to the Young Warriors in the semi-finals on Saturday at Luveve Stadium, Namibia settled for bronze in the men’s football African Union Sports Council Region 5 Under-20 Youth Games when they beat Malawi in the third place play-off at Barbourfields Stadium yesterday.

AFTER losing 1-0 to the Young Warriors in the semi-finals on Saturday at Luveve Stadium, Namibia settled for bronze in the men’s football African Union Sports Council Region 5 Under-20 Youth Games when they beat Malawi in the third place play-off at Barbourfields Stadium yesterday.

Namibia came back from behind to grab the bronze after Malawi’s Yusuf Luwanda had opened the scoring in half time optional time after a defensive error by the Namibian goalkeeper Donovan Gainub.

Zimbabwe referee Philani Ncube awarded Namibia a penalty three minutes after the breather and George Hummel converted to level the scoreline.

Namibia then got their winner through substitute Hiha Katjivena in the 79th minute.

Katjivena had replaced Brendon Kotungondo who had come in the 46th minute for Tuhafeni Leonard.
