Sikhonjwa was travelling in the same car with fellow comedian Clive Chigubhu, who got injured and is at the same hospital although his condition is said to be stable.

Sikhonjwa is currently under strict monitoring on life support and has an intercostal catheter inserted to drain blood from his chest. According to sources, Sikhonjwa lost a lot of blood and also suffered severe internal injuries resulting in blood accumulating in his chest.

Chigubhu was talking and was moved from the ICU to a regular ward and entertained visitors during yesterday’s lunch time visiting hour.

According to sources, Sikhonjwa and Chigubhu were involved in the accident while returning from an all-white party hosted by prime South African DJ Zinhle at Horizon Bar and Restaurant on Sunday night.

Although details of the accident were sketchy, a woman claiming to be Sikhonjwa’s fiancé confirmed to Southern Eye Lifestyle that the two comedians had been in a horrific accident.

“I can confirm that he was involved in an accident yesterday morning (Monday) and was rushed to Mpilo Hospital. Babongile is in the ICU. That’s all I can say to you,” she said in a quivering voice.

A comedian, who declined to be named, confirmed that the two were in hospital and he was making efforts to visit them.

“I received a message that my friends were involved in an accident, so I am trying to make my way to the hospital right now,” he said.

Percy Sikhosana, Sikhonjwa’s business partner, declined to comment and asked Southern Eye Lifestyle not to publish the story saying the two comedians needed privacy.

“At this moment we do not want the press to release anything. May you give him his space and respect during this time that he is going through,” Sikhosana said.
