HAZ vice-president Humphrey Chigwedere said yesterday: “We have been having some meetings with Fairweather since yesterday (Monday) with hopes of coming up with the solutions to problems that hockey teams have encountered and we are still to conduct more meetings,” Chigwedere said.
“The meetings have been fruitful, we have taken him (Fairweather) to see the Magamba Hockey Stadium and he has also met the Tourism minister (Walter Mzembi) and the Sport, Arts and Culture deputy minister (Tabetha Kanengoni-Malinga) in Harare.
“We have discussed Magamba Stadium rehabilitation grants and now we are into other discussions,” he added.
The refurbishment of Magamba has been one of the goals that HAZ has had over the past few years.
The facility has been lying idle since after the All-Africa Games which were hosted by Zimbabwe in 1995.
The Zimbabwe women’s hockey team was one of the most feared internationally setting the tone when they won gold at the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow, Russia.
