Tapera will be working with the current technical department which was previously headed by coach John Nyikadzino.

Nyikadzino won promotion with the airmen in 2013 from the Central Region Division One and was in charge of the team in the PSL where successful saved from demotion.

However, the bosses at the club seem not be happy with the team fighting relegation given the investment they and sponsors BancABC have committed.

Chapungu chief executive officer Chris-Levie Mukotekwa confirmed the latest development at the Gweru-based side.

“Yes, I can confirm that he (Tapera) has been appointed the technical manager. He would be heading the technical department and would be sitting in the executive as a technical member.

“We have streamlined the terms of reference to both of them (Nyikadzino and Tapera) and they know who is in charge of what. “They will be working together as members of the technical department,” he continued.

“We want to instill professionalism into the club. Football is an institution on its own such that we cannot be solely following the way we run things as soldiers.

“We believe Tapera is the right person to help us achieve that because of his experience in football,” Mukotekwa said.

Turning to playing material, the chief said all players would be assessed by the technical team before any decisions are made.

Some players at the club like Brighton Mugoni, Alexander Useni, Callisto Maheya, Polite Sibanda and Victor Bangira were heading out of the club.

“They will work together in assembling the squad for the upcoming season and we will give them all the necessary support. They will advise on players they want to work with,” he said. Tapera is a retired soldier and will likely not face any difficulties in working with the combat men.

Tapera spent last season at Shabanie Mine, who were eventually relegated, after being seconded by FC Platinum his past employers.
