Bosso have been playing friendlies in preparation for the season with a number of players from last year having been dropped while new ones have been added.

“We want people who love football and sympathise with the club to come to the clubhouse and meet the new technical set-up and players,” said chief executive officer Ndumiso Gumede.

“We have a new coach and we want our supporters to have a one-on-one with him because some are not familiar with him, but know his assistants Mandla (Mpofu) and Oxo (Peter Nkomo). We want supporters to get to know the players off the field of play, that is why we are giving the supporters this opportunity.”

Gumede said they would take the opportunity to fundraise for the club on that day.

“Card-carrying members and their families will enter for free, but everyone else will pay $2,” he said.

“There will be a lot of activities and we will be charging $1 for people to play games. We want to encourage supporters to come with their families, especially their children, so that they start identifying with the team.”

Gumede said this was part of the drive to turn the team professional.

Highlanders were in Matabeleland North where they met with supporters and played four matches in Victoria Falls over the weekend.

The team returned yesterday with Mafu saying his charges did well in the four matches which they won against Red Whippers, Sidobe Select and newly-prmoted Division One sides Makomo and Amagagasi.

The first team won both their matches 2-0 against Makomo and Amagagasi while the reserve side beat Sidobe Select 6-1 and walloped Red Whippers 8-0.

“We played relevant matches and we did very well. The guys  played well and we won all the matches that we played,” said Mafu.

Players selected for the first team include Bruce Kangwa, Douglas Sibanda, Thomas Chideu, Teenage Hadebe, Gabriel Nyoni, Rahman Kutsanzira, Webster Chingodza, Njabulo Nyoni, Mthulisi Maphosa, Honest Moyo and Welcome Ndiweni.

The reserve side comprised Ariel Sibanda, Eric Mudzingwa, Obadiah Tarumbwa, Felix Chindungwe, Edmore Muzanenhamo and Godfrey Makaruse.

On Sunday, Highlanders will play friendly matches in Beitbridge as the Bulawayo giants take the team to the people before the start of the Castle Lager PSL season next month.
