Congo Brazzaville will host the 2015 All-Africa Games in September marking the 50th anniversary of the games which were first held in that country in 1965.

The meeting is aimed at discussing preparations for the All-Africa Games Region 5 qualifying tournament which requires $26 450 to send 32 players and eight officials to Zambia.

ZHF secretary–general Alphios Magiya told Southern Eye Sport about the intended meeting yesterday.

“The Zimbabwe Handball Federation and the resource mobilisation team are meeting in Harare on Saturday to discuss further on the preparations for the trip to Zambia.handball

“However, preparations for the trip are going on very well. The players are having periodic camps despite us failing to hold one last weekend owing to inadequate funds. I will be able to say more after our Saturday meeting,” he said.

Magiya recently said they would approach the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) for assistance as they need money for transport, kits, players allowances and accommodation.

“Our qualifiers are coming earlier than any other sporting discipline. We are hoping that the government through SRC would chip in and  assist. However, we all know that the economic situation in the country is bad, so we still have a  huge part to play in terms of mobilising resources,” he said.

Thembani Nkala is in charge of the men’s team assisted by Cephas Mushati while   Moreways Changa  is the women team coach assisted by Sibulisiwe Mpofu.

Magiya said they were given a short time to mobilise resources for the qualifiers as they were informed on January 26 that the qualifiers would be from March 9.
