Guinea Fowl has of late become the hub of nurturing sport talent in the region having contributed a number of upcoming football stars like Whawha midfield general Livingstone Genti and FC Platinum teenage striker Nigel Papias.

The school head Manson Mudzingwa confirmed the tournament adding that he was focused on seeing sport develop in the country.

“We would be hosting the George Mitchell sports tournament on Saturday. We are expecting about 20 teams from the Midlands and Masvingo provinces. So far more than 15 schools have confirmed participation.

“We are grateful to the sponsors for donating to this noble cause. We are concerned about development of sport in the country and such tournaments will go a long way in this cause.

“For us as Guinea Fowl, we have been involved immensely in nurturing future sports stars.

“There are a number of premiership stars currently playing in the top-flight league who are graduates from our academy through our co-operation with FC Platinum,” Mudzingwa said.

Tournament funder Pascal Muringani, who is the proprietor of George Mitchell Sports, said it was his desire to see the game grow.

“I am concerned about the development of sport in the country and the only way to develop players is to support the upcoming players through staging such tournaments. The idea is not to motivate children with money, but the zeal to compete,” he said.
