Bornwell Sibanda (23) of Chinotimba suburb pleaded guilty to assault charges when he appeared before Victoria Falls magistrate Sharon Rosemani accused of abusing Victoria Lipoka.

He said he became angry when she found her drinking beer with her friends and an unidentified male.

“I was at a bar and she invited me for a sleep over at her place but when I got there I found her in company of her friend and a man whom I suspected to be her boyfriend,” Sibanda said in court.

“That made me angry and I slapped her.”

He accused her of being a bad mother saying she often left their child alone when she went out drinking.

“My mother bought her grocery to feed the child, but she ate the food with other commercial sex workers that she stays with,” Sibanda charged.

He said Lipoka threatened his second wife until she deserted him. Prosecutor Listen Nare had told the court that on April 2 at around 11pm, Sibanda went to Lipoka’s residence at 4102 Chinotimba.

He found her sleeping with her sister and her sister’s boyfriend.

Sibanda picked an empty beer bottle and hit Lipoka on the head and chin after suspecting that she was with a boyfriend.

Lipoka sustained a deep cut in the chin. She vowed never to forgive her former husband in court.

“This time I won’t forgive him, l’m tired. Please tell him your worship to tell his mother to stop threatening me,” Lipoka said.

Sibanda was remanded in custody to today for sentencing.
