The physiotherapy centre was constructed through a Japanese grant and was expected to benefit people affected by coal mining activities.
Speaking at the handover, Hiraishi urged the hospital staff to take care of the centre which was expected to help thousands of people from the surrounding community.
“There has been an increasing demand for physiotherapy for those who need recovery from physical injuries caused mainly by coal mining activities in Hwange and neighbouring areas,” Hiraishi said.
“Many of those people had failed to access quality medical service due to the lack of an appropriate rehabilitation facilities at the hospital which has been a referral centre for clinics for the whole district.
“Therefore, the new facility will greatly improve service of physiotherapy in Hwange district as a whole and enhance standard of living of local communities.”
He added: “We have no doubt that the hospital will spare no effort to maintain the centre and we hope it will help local people to have better access to quality medical services in the district.”
