In an interview with Southern Eye Lifestyle producer and director Mthulisi Moyo said the 80-minute drama shot in Soweto, South Africa and Harare (Zimbabwe) was created to unite South African and Zimbabwean artistes. It features popular musician-cum-comedian Freddy “Kapfupi” Manjalima.

“We have released our trailer which shows a scene where a pastor, played by Gwala, makes a phone call to a fellow congregant and friend, played by Kapfupi, to accommodate the main actor Mahlalela – a Zimbabwean national finding it hard to settle in South Africa,” Moyo said.

Mahlalela stays with a brother soon after his arrival, but is sent packing by the sibling fearing police will arrest younger Mahlalela for lack of proper documents.

Gwala responds to Kapfupi in Shona. He has always used Zulu and other SA languages in his music and his switch of Shona is remarkable given the recent wave of genocidal outrage in that country.

“The drama is currently waiting for Gramma and ZMC who will sell the production, to OK it so that all processes can come into place. The two are involved in the production process and they would give the release date. They are contracted to sell the product. I am still contacting broadcasters (ZBC, Mzansi Magic) for the product. The public will be informed in due course.”

Moyo has been writing movie scripts for more than eight years. In 2014, he produced a drama titled Phandile, which did not do well on the local market.
