Mujika Chivandi (38), who was represented by city lawyer Dumisani Dube, denied the charge and was remanded in custody to May 22 for continuation of trial.
She pleaded not guilty to the theft charges when she appeared before Bulawayo senior magistrate Gladmore Mushove.
Allegations against Chivandi are that between June 2013 and May 2014, she received various amounts of money adding up to $57 607 from other accounting assistants at the college for banking.
She, however, allegedly diverted the money to her own use.
The alleged offence was later discovered during an internal audit conducted by officials from the of Higher and Tertiary Education ministry.
The State’s key witness, Teressa Matizha — who works as the college accountant — told the court that when she discovered the anomaly, she informed the college principal Gilbert Mabasa. She said Mabasa notified the ministry, leading to Chivandi’s arrest.
