Kelvin Kaindu’s men now have 20 points and have a better goal difference than second-placed Chicken Inn, who could only manage a 1-1 draw against ZPC Kariba on Saturday.

For the second time inside a month, WhaWha received a six-nil hiding after falling by the same scoreline to How Mine two weeks ago and that does not augur well for coach Lloyd Mutasa who could find himself answering difficult questions from his bosses. But really, there was little he could do yesterday as Triangle have so far collected maximum points in all their home matches this season.

Mutasa blamed the loss on his young squad, saying they were drained after their midweek game against Dynamos.

“The better team won and we conceded early goals. That eventually unsettled the players. The youngsters then saw six goals coming their way.

These are youngsters and the Dynamos game was energy-sapping, so playing another game in the same week was very tough,” Mutasa said.

Kaindu was happy after collecting three points at home.

“It is good that we maintained the record of good scoring at home and we will continue to work hard. The six goals came from different players and this shows an element of team work. We want to set a standard when we are at our home ground. This type of play makes our concerns heard when we complain over bad playing grounds which we encounter during away games,” Kaindu said, in particular reference to Larfarge Stadium where Flame Lily plays.

Lameck Nhamo smashed in a Peter Muzondo long throw-in past the visitors’ goalkeeper Phillip Nhete, two minutes after the start before Praise Tonha poked home the second goal of the afternoon three minutes later.

Triangle increased their tally in the 15th minute after goalkeeper Ronald Mudimu converted from the spot. Nhamo was hacked down in a crowded opposition box and Mudimu, who scored from the resultant penalty before Tonha, completed his brace on the half hour mark.

WhaWha almost reduced the arrears’ in the 36th minute, but striker Malvern Nyakabangwe shot wide with only Mudimu to beat.

Zambian international Antony Sakala then fired home from close range after intercepting a Jimmy Kanono back pass in the 39th minute.

Pasca Manhanga added his side’s fifth goal with a fine header in the 63th minute benefiting from Nhamo’s cross.

Malvern Gaki then made it six when he volleyed home a deep cross from Manhanga in the 80th minute.
