A 22-YEAR-OLD Mberengwa man who last year waylaid a nine-year-old girl on her way from school and raped her, was yesterday slapped with an effective 14-year jail term.

Gweru regional magistrate Morgan Nemadire heard that Samson Mubape, who resides in Bani village under Chief Mapiravana, committed the offence on four separate occasions in February last year.
Initially, Mubape was sentenced to 17 years before three years were set aside on condition of good behaviour.
The court heard that after the first incident, Mubape threatened to cut off the girl’s head if she reported the abuse to anyone. He later raped her three more
times on unknown dates, but during the same month using the same tactics.
On May 17 2014, the girl’s mother became inquisitive when she noticed a scar on her daughter’s privates and quizzed her.
The girl then narrated the rape ordeal to her mother and a report was made to the police, leading to Mubape’s arrest.
