Sandra Mutsapata (32), employed at Mpilo Central Hospital, denied the charge of violating the protection order when she appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Tinashe Tashaya on Monday.

Instead, she claimed her husband Tamuka Everswick Mutsapata (41) was the one who was violent against her. Prosecutor Petronellah Ngwenya told the court that sometime this year, Tamuka filed an application seeking a protection order to be issued against his wife Sandra, whom he said attacked him all the time even when he was driving.

He said her acts were posing a serious danger that they might be involved in an accident if she continued.

He described his wife as violent and without restraint.

According to court records, the couple now lives separately in the Bulawayo city centre.

It is the State case that on May 23, Sandra went to her husband’s place at 9am.

It is alleged that when Tamuka opened the door Sandra pushed it forcefully, knocking her husband with it before she entered the room and started shouting at him.

She allegedly said she was still his wife and accused him of suffering from mental illness.

Tamuka tried to force her out of his room, but she would not budge. When Tamuka discovered that she was getting more violent, he told her that he would report her to the police for violating the protection order.

Sandra pounced on him and wrestled with him, but Tamuka shook her off, got into the car and went to report to the police, leading to Sandra’s arrest.
