Her naked body was thrown into the Zambezi River and was only discovered yesterday morning.
Praise Mpofu was a Form 4 student at Mosi-Oa-Tunya High School.
Her boyfriend identified as Brian Dube, who was left for dead by the assailants, is doing Form 6 at the same school.
Mosi-Oa-Tunya headmaster Ronald Sibanda said a tourist found Dube lying in a pool of blood and alerted the police.
“I can confirm the incident, but I can’t give full details on what happened exactly. The police are still carrying out further investigations,” he said.
“A tourist saw the boy lying down, bleeding profusely and his hands were tied with a laptop cable and he immediately contacted the police. We were informed around 6PM.”

Sibanda said Dube was unconscious when he was discovered. He said the little details he had given indicated the lovers were attacked by a gang of young men.
“When the lad regained consciousness, he allegedly told his family members that he and his girlfriend had been attacked by a gang of boys who later kidnapped his girlfriend,” he said.
“The two had sat for their mid-year examinations yesterday afternoon though.”
Dube who reportedly suffered head injuries was last night said to be in a critical condition.
Praise’s uncle, Cornelius Mpofu said the family was failing to come to terms with her death.
He said they started searching for her on Wednesday night.
They abandoned the search at midnight because of wild animals in the area.
Mpofu said he noticed her body floating near the river bank at 7AM, after resuming the search at 4AM.
Matabeleland North police could not be reached for comment last night.
