The boy met the girl on her way from school and dragged her into a nearby bush where he raped her.

Regional magistrate, Morgan Nemadire slapped the teenager, who is a school dropout, with a three years wholly suspended jail sentence on condition of good behaviour for the next five years.

He said the young offender will be confined to a reformatory institution.

Prosecuting Andrew Marimo had told the court that o March 7 at around 4pm the complainant, a Grade One pupil at Dombwe Primary School in Chironde area, Shurugwi was coming from school in the company of her three friends.

The four kids met the accused who was coming from an opposite direction.

When the girls passed the boy, he threatened to beat them up for not greeting him.

The complainant and her friends ran away but he stopped them saying he was only joking and would not beat the kids.

When they stopped the boy grabbed the complainant’s hand and told her friends to go home.

He then dragged the girl into a nearby bush where he covered her mouth with his hand before raping her once.

Upon reaching home one of the complainant’s friends told the complainant’s mother that they left her behind with a boy.

The girl’s mother traced her daughter and met her along a path crying.

She enquired why she was crying and also asked what had caused the back of her uniform to be dirty.

The girl narrated the rape ordeal and a report was made to the police leading to the arrest of the boy.
