ZANU PF Masvingo provincial secretary for finance, Killer Zivhu, has urged ruling party members to refrain from fighting for positions, but serve the people.

Speaking at a farmers’ competition he sponsored at Nyahombe Business Centre yesterday, Zivhu, who is also Chivi Rural District Council chairperson, said it was time politicians concentrated on development and serving the people who elected them to positions.

“As politicians, let us now concentrate on development. We are done with politicking and it is time to work for the people for the good of Zanu PF,” he said.

“We say no to political maneuvers and schemes which will not benefit the people and the party.

“It’s bad to start fighting for someone’s position when they have not yet finished their term in office.

“The time for campaigning and jostling for positions will come, but it is not now.”

Zivhu said politicians should fight to win the hearts and minds of the electorate through initiating development and empowerment programmes.

“Just come to the people and do something for them, than just to fight in the structures,” he said.

Zivhu also urged the electorate to avoid over dependency on their leaders while resting on their laurels.

“On the other hand, the electorate should also not become cry-babies. There are some things that you can do on your own which your councillor or MP cannot do for you,” he said.

“As farmers, we call for self-sustenance at household level to ensure food security. You have to be somewhere.”

Zanu PF is battling serious infighting blamed on President Robert Mugabe’s unresolved succession.
