THE 2015 edition of the Intwasa Arts Festival roars into life in Bulawayo today with organisers appealing to residents to support the festival.
BY LUYANDUHLOBO MAKWATI The week-long event runs under the theme My Intwasa, Your Intwasa, Our Intwasa.
According to the programme, the opening night is set Wednesday at the Ingwebu Stage (Main Stage, City Hall car park).
Intwasa Arts festival Ko Bulawayo director Raisedon Baya said despite the financial difficulties during preparations, they are ready to roll. He appealed to Bulawayo arts and culture enthusiasts to attend the shows.
“As Intwasa organisers this is not our event. It’s a festival for the people and our duty is to organise and we have done that,” he said.
“For the children’s programmes, sponsored by Plan international among others we are urging parents to encourage their children to take part in the festival as it is inclusive of everyone.”
Intwasa has become one of the most prestigious festivals in the city and it is always getting bigger and better yearly.

Intwasa Festival ko Bulawayo partners this year partners with Plan Zimbabwe, British Council, Alliance Francaise, Zimbabwe Germany Society, Pro Helvetia, City of Bulawayo, Chibuku, Pamberi Trust, Afdis, Ingwebu, Bpra and Transparency International, The Music, Edgars, Bulawayo Polytechnic and Hunnar.
Some of the shows that could captivate the fans range from Women, Wine, Words on tonight at the National Art Gallery in Bulawayo featuring Lady Tshawe, Deanna Rodger, Francesca Beard, One Stand Band and Tinashe Tafirenyika.
The Bulawayo Show is also on with Clive Chigubhu, Doc Vikela, Q The Boss and Keith Nkosi, set to trill comedy fans.
Intwasa Festival is a multi-disciplinary event that seeks to showcase African and cultural expressions.
The festival is held every September, as the month marks the beginning of spring, a season of regeneration and rebirth.
Since its inception in 2005, Intwasa has hosted regional and international artistes from Botswana, Swaziland, South Africa, the United States of America, United Kingdom, Sierra Leone, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Wales and Zambia.
