Hip Hop Festival lives up to billing

The well-attended event which started around 7pm saw performances from upcoming artistes warming up the stage.

Artistes such as POY, Guluva 7, Thabbz, Tear Dream Kings and Zima nominees Cal-Vin and Mzoe7 put up sterling performances, much to the delight of fans who kept asking for more.

Cal-Vin belted out tracks such as King and Bona and teamed up with Thabbz to perform Hey Wena, which got the house singing along.

Multiple award-winning rapper, POY, also brought the house down with former chart topping Sola Sola, Dirty Game and Ke Summer.

Speaking on the sidelines of the show, Adrian “Beef” Harrison, the Zim Hip-Hop Awards director, said Bulawayo had great talent.

“It is always a marvel to watch Bulawayo artistes perform. The guys have great talent and energy. What a night! It’s so unbelievable how these upcoming artistes held it down,” he said.

Changamire Festival host, Tafadzwa Jackson, popularly known as Zimboy, said he enjoyed the first ever Bulawayo show.

“This was our first edition in Bulawayo and it came out well, Bulawayo has got love for hip-hop, surely it is the city of hip-hop. I see more shows coming to the city in the future,” he said.

“I thank the artiste for showing love and also the fans who came, it was nice being here.”

The show was meant to celebrate the 5th edition of the hip-hop awards set for December in the capital, with nominees set to be named anytime soon.
