According to police sources, the woman identified as Lynda Penhura Ncube was found dead by an unknown person on Sunday, who then called Magwegwe Police Internal Security Intelligence (PISI) office advising them of his finding.

“Tasara Murove (35), a PISI officer was on duty at Magwegwe PISI office on November 23 at 9am, when he received a call from an anonymous person who told him that he had seen a body of a woman under a tree the previous day,” a police source said.

“Murove, together with other police officers, went to the scene and found the body of the woman 50 metres away from the main road under a tree covered with tree branches.”

The deceased only had a bra on.

“It appears the woman was strangled with a black female legging, which was found still tied around her neck and a white female pant was found a metre away from the woman’s body.” the source said.

The deceased’s friend, who asked not to be named said it appears she was raped before being killed. She left a one-year-old baby.

“She had gone partying up to 1am with other female friends who were driving and after the party they dropped her at Colbro to find her way home. The killer might have picked her from there. Only she would tell what happened if she was alive,” a friend said.

Bulawayo Police Spokesperson, Inspector Precious Simango, was said to be out of office by the time Southern Eye contacted the police for comment.

But the police sources said the matter was being investigated and was being treated as a murder.
