SOME police stations in Matabeleland North Province have reportedly been left without operation vehicles, as the fleet has been commandeered to beef up security at the Zanu PF conference in Victoria Falls.

Binga North MP, Prince Dubeko Sibanda (MDC-T) said the Zanu PF conference had created a shortage of police vehicles in several areas, adding ordinary people were suffering as a result.
“Almost 25% of the total ZRP pool in Matabeleland North is now stationed in Victoria Falls for the Zanu PF conference,” he said.
The report came as the family of a murdered Grade 5 pupil at Samende Primary School in Binga went through trying times over the past fortnight, with police claiming they could not carry their son’s body to Bulawayo for post-mortem, citing transport shortages.
The late Ndondi Ndlovu was allegedly killed by his classmate during a scuffle at the school and his body has been “rotting” at Binga District Hospital mortuary because the facility receives erratic power supplies.
The deceased’s grandfather, Simon Mpande, told Southern Eye yesterday that the body was finally taken away on Monday, but they were unsure of its condition.

“From November 25, when he died, we approached the Binga District ZRP to take the body for post-mortem, but they said they did not have vehicles. When I approached them a third time, they said a vehicle coming from Hwange to carry the body, had broken down in Kamativi,” he said.
“Later, they said another vehicle would come from Lupane, but it never came. I ended up approaching the MP Prince Dubeko Sibanda (Binga North) for help, and the body was transported to Bulawayo on Monday morning.”
