Three people died on the spot and 19 others were seriously injured when a kombi allegedly trafficking 21 Ethiopians to South Africa burst a rear left tyre and overturned near Shangani.

The accident occurred at the 60-kilometre peg along the Bulawayo-Harare Highway at around 1am.

The kombi driver, a Zimbabwean, was among the deceased.

Prosecutor Nkathazo Dlodlo told the court that on December 8 this year, the Ethiopians illegally entered the country through Chirundu Border Post and were later arrested following the accident.
