The State alleges that sometime between January 2014 and June 2015, Madume Noko who heads Ntatale Primary School collected $1 658 and R7 040 as fees and was supposed to deposit the money into the school’s bank account, but converted it to his own use.

Noko allegedly further withdrew $3 605 and R1 764 from the same account and failed to remit it to the school.

The matter came to light when auditors from the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education visited the school and unearthed the scam.

Noko allegedly admitted stealing the money and penned an affidavit promising to pay back the money to the school by the end of December last year, but failed to honour his pledge, leading to his arrest.

The school’s deputy head, Trevy Sebata, claims that parents were now reluctant to pay tuition fees following the incident.
