Sibanda will join fellow former Radio 2 host Eric Knight and ex Radio 3 jockey James Maridadi in the fight for parliamentary seats.

Other candidates sailing through from the primary elections in Midlands include Davis Shoko (Mberengwa South), Tavafira Zhou (Mberengwa North), Cumming Hove (Mberengwa East), Onismo Manungo (Shurungwi North), Munyaradzi Mutandavari (Shurugwi South), Francisco Masendeke (Chirumanzu), Clever Bhoko (Zvishavane, Runde), Ishmael Jeko ( Chirumanzu, Zibagwe), and Amos Chibaya in Mkoba.

However, Gweru Urban legislator Rodrick Rutsvara failed to garner the two-thirds threshold required to avoid primary elections and will square it off with former mayor Sesel Zvidzai and Nyasha Mkahlera.

There were minor skirmishes between Rustvara and Zvidzai as the two haggled over how the process would be conducted.

MDC-T chairman Lovemore Moyo downplayed any violence in the exercise saying, “there were only differences among contestants” adding that it was normal in a democracy. Primary elections in Chiwundura and Zvishavane-Ngezi were postponed to a later date after some of the wards could not complete the exercise by Wednesday evening. [email protected]
