Mahachi, who was also in the running for the 2012 Soccer Star of the Year award, has had a slow start to the this year’s season after ending last season on a high note. The nimble left-footed Chicken Inn midfielder spoke to Southern Eye Sport on the sidelines of the 2013 Copa Coca-Cola launch at Mzingwane High School last Friday.

“I am not happy with the form that I have shown in the opening games of the season. A lot is expected from me as I won last year’s Rookie of the Year award and that has put a lot of pressure on me to perform better than what I am currently doing.

“I’m hoping to use the break to rebuild my confidence so that when the games resume my performance will improve by each game and get back to the form that saw me win the award.

“My confidence has been very low as a player due to the fact that at the beginning of the season I was coming off the bench,” he said.

Mahachi is one of the stars that graced the launch of the Copa Coca-Cola Tournament and tipped Mzilikazi High School to win this year’s competition.

“This tournament gives a platform for these young players to showcase their talent and develop their football careers. I encourage all the players that will be taking part in the competition that through discipline and self belief as a player they can go far in the game,” Mahachi said.

Chicken Inn sit on position four on the log standings having picked up 23 points from 13 matches, six points behind Highlanders and two points behind Dynamos and Harare City who have both amassed 25 points.

Tendai Ndoro has scored nine of Chicken Inn’s 18 goals topping the scorers’ charts in the 13th round.
