ATHLETES from around the country will flex their muscles at Maglas Stadium in Zvishavane when they take part in the African Associated Mine Track and Field events tomorrow and Sunday.

The competition will feature senior men and women, junior boys and girls’ Under-20 and youth boys and girls Under-18.

Midlands Athletics Board Secretary William Chuwa yesterday said all was set for the competition.

“We have several clubs like Ziscosteel, Hwange, Freda Rebecca, Rio Tinto, Gaths Mine, Sparrows, Churchill and Shabanie who will be taking part. Churchill High have also said they were participating as well.

“The event has attracted athletes from all over the country who will be coming in their club colours and some in their provincial colours as provinces shape up their teams for the National Youth Games to be held in Bulawayo in August.

“Most provinces have entered skeleton teams for their youth games while individual clubs and independent runners have also entered for the events,” he said.

Bulawayo Metropolitan Province is hosting this year’s edition of the National Youth Games in August. The Under-18 boys and girls are taking part in 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1 500m, 3 000m and medley relay.

The junior Under-20 boys and girls will feature in the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1 500m, 5 000m, 4 x 100m relays.

Senior men and women will fight for top spot in the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m,

10 000m, 4x400m and 4x100m relays. All the age groups will take part in long and triple jumps, javelin, discus and shot put.
