THE FIRST half of the Zifa Southern Region Division One League will come to an end this weekend with a number of riveting encounters lined up as Quelaton host pacesetters Bulawayo Chiefs in a top-of-the-table clash at Fairbridge tomorrow.

The Rahman Gumbo-coached outfit will be looking to wrap up the first half of the season in style, as they have maintained a fine run which has seen the side sitting at the summit of the log standings with 34 points. Chiefs have won 11 of their 14 matches, losing twice and dropping two points. They have proved to be serious contenders for the sole ticket for promotion into the Premier Soccer League. Gumbo’s side will be heading into this weekend’s clash confident having managed to come out with maximum points in last week’s tricky clash against ZPC Hwange.

Third-placed Quelaton head into tomorrow’s clash on a mission to keep their title aspirations alive. They will be gunning for victory to reduce the deficit as they are nine points behind log leaders with 25 points.

Quelaton dropped points in last week’s match where they were held to a goalless draw at home by Tsholotsho at Luveve Stadium.

Relegation candidates, Bulawayo Jumbos, will have a tough assignment, hosting police side Black Boots, which is second on the log standings, at the Brad Barracks tomorrow.

The police side will be looking to maintain pressure on the log leaders. Their opponents lie seven points behind them while Jumbos will be looking for a win to move out of the relegation zone.

Ntabazinduna, lodged at the bottom of the log, host another struggling side Rufaro Rovers second from the bottom of the league — in a bottom-of-the-table clash as New West and Mpumalanga clash at the Portuguese club.

A Hwange derby is on the cards as fourth-placed Technosphere lock horns with Hwange Juniors while ZPC will host the unpredictable Tsholotsho who have been having a good run league of late conceding only three loses after 14 games.

Sunday will see another top shelf encounter as Bantu Rovers and Zimbabwe Saints clash at Luveve Stadium.

Both sides seek to keep up with the pace of the leading pack. New boys Ajax Hotspurs are up against Mkosana at white City to conclude this weekend’s matches.
