ZANU PF Central Committee member and parliamentary candidate for Makokoba constituency Tshinga Dube says employment creation and welfare of the elderly

ZANU PF Central Committee member and parliamentary candidate for Makokoba constituency Tshinga Dube says employment creation and welfare of the elderly will be key in his election campaign Dube said the elderly in one the oldest townships in Bulawayo have been neglected as a majority of them do not have pensions. Report by Nqobile Bhebhe

“Unemployment is high in Makokoba,” he said in an interview. “The youths are not working and recreational facilities are not defunct.

“However, there are several projects that I want to implement, but when I think about them I get confused.

“The elderly people are suffering. They don’t have pensions and some are dying of hunger, as they don’t have anyone to take care of them.”

A dirty war has erupted in Makokoba where Dube is being challenged by MDC-T provincial chairman Gorden Moyo.

Moyo has threatened to sue ZBC after its radio and television stations at the weekend claimed that he was contemplating joining Zanu PF after he was spotted at one of Dube’s campaign rallies. Other candidates eyeing Makokoba are Thabile Ndlovu (MDC), Thomeki Dube (Alliance Khumbula Ekhaya), Zenzo Lot Masuku (Zapu), Patricia Ncube (FZC) and Harry Peter Wilson of Mavambo/Kusile/Dawn. Dube complained that many company premises in Bulawayo had been turned into church buildings. He said the trend should be reversed.

“Many factories in the city are closed or have been turned into churches. We need to look for foreign investors to revive those industries.”

Zanu PF has not won a single parliamentary seat in Bulawayo since the advent of MDC in 1999.

Dube lost to MDC-T vice-president Thokozani Khupe in the last polls.
